ZooZoo - Nineteen miles from Ft. Walton Beach is one of the largest zoo's in our area. Over 400 birds, mammals, reptiles and Colossus, the world's largest captive gorilla can be found. It is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. 923-2229.

 

Gulfarium - Trained porpoise, sea lions, marine life and the famous "Living Sea" are presented at the Gulfarium daily 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on U.S. 98 just east of Ft. Walton on Okaloosa Island. Open 9:00 a.m., 7 days. 244-5169.

Scuba Diving - The emerald waters are second only to perhaps the Caribbean for diving adventures. Whether you are a seasoned diver, novice, or just interested in an afternoon snorkeling excursion the dive shops will entertain your desire to visit the ocean world. Water Parks and Amusements - Big Kahunas and Water World boast the largest slides in northwest Florida. Thrill to a ride through the "tubes" or gently down a slope. If you're more adventurous try the giant slides. "The Track" offers go-carts and bumper boats as well as kiddie rides for young adventurers.

 

Canoeing - Complete round-trip service is yours. You will be taken upstream and met upon your return. Enjoy a quiet day on the Blackwater River. Call 623-0235.

Destin Fishing Museum - See what it's all about. Destin has its roots displayed for public enjoyment. Wednesday - Sunday 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Call 654-1011 in the Moreno Plaza at the foot of Destin Bridge. See what the ocean bottom looks like without getting wet.

 

Shopping - For the indoor enthusiast there are many specialty shops in the Destin area as well as several factory outlets. The Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther is the second largest mall in N.W. Florida. Special shops located in quaint "squares" in Destin have much to choose from. Even the most ardent shopper will have a difficult time deciding where to go first. Coffee beans to Persian rugs, exotic lingerie or casual beachwear, there are shops that cater to your special tastes.

 

Tennis - The Destin Racquet Club and Tops'l Resort sponsors are tournaments that draw amateurs and professionals alike, they are open to the public and court times can be arranged by calling 827-7300. Most area golf courses also boast championship tennis facilities and there are several resorts specializing in tennis. Why not take a "swing" at it while you're here?

Nightlife
- when the sun goes down the heat really begins. Club life is as spectacular as the fishing and as diversified. Whether you like Country Western or New Wave there's a beat for everyone.

 

 

Beaches - whether it sandcastles or "girl watching" the brilliant white beaches beacon each and every visitor. Ever changing, the scenic beauty draws thousands of visitors yearly. Public beaches and parks abound but there are still quiet areas of seclusion for those who like privacy. Many of the beaches offer umbrella and chair rental, lifeguards on duty, sailboat rental and public restrooms. There are two nearby public beaches Wayside and John C. Beasley. Shell collecting, snorkeling, swimming, volleyball or just a good old fashion tan can be found on any beach. Remember to pack plenty of sunscreen and use it often. A nasty sunburn can turn a memory into a nightmare.

 

Fishing - Destin boasts itself as "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village." Anglers young and old put themselves to the test in the area waters as fish abound. Known as one of the premier sport fishing resorts in the nation Destin is home to several record catches. Whether it be a pier, bayou, bridge, jetty, bay, or offshore, fishermen are challenged by the many varieties known to these waters. Golf - if you really want to get into the "swing" of the Emerald Coast there are numerous courses which can accommodate the most avis linkster. Championship courses abound in our area. Tiger Point, Indian Bayou, Bay Point, Bluewater Bay, Shalimar Pointe 651-1416, Santa Rosa and fabled Sandestin are just a few of the challenges to be met. If you like your golf game there is a course waiting here "fore" you.
